How price tiers work
Price tiers allow you to set multiple price levels for a single ticket type. Each tier has a start date — the system automatically switches to the next price level when the specified date arrives.
This implements an "early bird" strategy: participants who buy tickets earlier pay less.
Setting up price tiers
- Open the event -> "Tickets" tab.
- For the desired ticket type, select "Tiered" pricing.
- Add tiers — for each one, specify:
- Name — displayed to participants (e.g., "Early Bird", "Standard", "Late")
- Price — the cost at this level
- Start date — when this tier takes effect
- Click "Save changes".
Example setup
A conference on October 15. We create 3 tiers for the "Standard" ticket:
| Tier | Price | Start date |
|---|---|---|
| Early Bird | 3,000 RUB | July 1 (sales start) |
| Standard | 5,000 RUB | September 1 |
| Late | 7,000 RUB | October 1 |
From July 1, the ticket sells for 3,000 RUB. On September 1, the price automatically increases to 5,000 RUB. On October 1 — to 7,000 RUB.
Automatic switching
Tier transitions happen automatically based on server time. The organizer does not need to change prices manually — the system does this at the moment the date arrives.
During the switch:
- The new price takes effect instantly
- Participants who have already started payment at the old price (within an active reservation) complete payment at the old price
- New buyers see the new price
Display for participants
In the registration form, the participant sees:
- Current price — the active price tier
- Next price — the amount and date when the price will increase (motivation to buy)
- Tier name — for example, "Early Bird until September 1"
Displaying the next price creates a sense of urgency and encourages early purchases.
Combining with other tools
Tiers and promo codes
Promo codes apply on top of the current tier. If the "Early Bird" tier is active at 3,000 RUB and a 20% discount promo code is applied, the participant pays 2,400 RUB.
Tiers and options
Ticket options are independent of the price tier. The cost of a transfer or meals remains constant regardless of which tier the ticket was purchased at.
Tiers and quota
The quota is shared across the entire ticket type, not per individual tier. If 200 standard tickets are allocated, this quota is consumed regardless of the price at which the participant buys the ticket.
Recommendations
- 2-3 tiers — the optimal number. More than 4 tiers can confuse participants.
- Meaningful difference — there should be a significant price difference between tiers (20-40%) for the strategy to work.
- Buffer time — end the last tier 1-2 days before the event, if you do not plan to sell on-site.
- Announce in advance — communicate the upcoming price increase in newsletters and social media a few days before the next tier begins.
