Roles and permissions by plan

Overview

The number of available roles and atomic permissions depends on the organization's plan. As you upgrade to a higher plan, additional roles and an expanded set of permissions become available.

Free -- 2 roles, 12 permissions

On the free plan, two roles are available:

  • Owner -- full control
  • Support -- viewing and check-in

Available permissions cover basic scenarios: creating events, viewing participants, check-in, basic settings. This is sufficient for a small team of 1-3 people.

Limitations:

  • No Manager or Finance roles -- Owner manages everything independently
  • No temporary roles
  • No event-scoped context (all roles apply at the organization level)

Pro -- 4 roles, 23 permissions

The Pro plan adds:

  • Admin -- full access except billing
  • Manager -- event and registration management

Additional permissions unlock:

  • Registration form management
  • Manual broadcasts to participants
  • Participant list export
  • Promo code management
  • Event-scoped roles (binding a role to a specific event)
  • Temporary roles with expires_at

Business -- 8 roles, 45 permissions

The Business plan adds:

  • Finance -- payments and reports
  • 3 additional slots for assigning multiple roles to a single user

Additional permissions unlock:

  • Financial reports and analytics
  • Initiating refunds
  • Notification template management
  • Payment gateway configuration
  • EXPERIMENT_MANAGE -- creating and managing A/B experiments
  • Embed widget management (origin allowlist)
  • Extended export (scheduled exports, webhooks)

Enterprise -- unlimited + custom roles builder

The Enterprise plan removes all limits:

  • 57+ atomic permissions -- the full set
  • Custom roles builder -- create roles with any combination of permissions
  • No limit on the number of roles

Custom roles builder

The builder allows you to create a role perfectly suited to your organizational structure:

  1. Go to Settings -> Team -> Roles.
  2. Click Create role.
  3. Enter a role name (e.g., "Venue Coordinator").
  4. Select the desired permissions from the full list.
  5. Click Save.

Custom roles work the same way as standard ones:

  • Can be assigned to multiple users
  • Support event-scoped context
  • Support time limits (expires_at)
  • Participate in the additive model (combined with other roles)

Behavior on plan changes

Upgrading

When upgrading to a higher plan, new roles and permissions become available immediately. No additional actions are required.

Downgrading

When downgrading to a lower plan:

  • Roles unavailable on the new plan are marked as archived_due_to_downgrade
  • Users with archived roles lose the corresponding permissions
  • Data is not deleted
  • Custom roles (Enterprise) are also archived

When upgrading back to a higher plan:

  • All archived roles are automatically restored
  • Users regain their permissions
  • Custom roles become available again

Frequently asked questions

What happens to roles when downgrading a plan?
Existing role assignments are preserved, but roles unavailable on the new plan are marked as archived_due_to_downgrade. Users with archived roles lose the corresponding permissions. When upgrading back, roles are restored automatically.
How many custom roles can I create on Enterprise?
The number of custom roles on Enterprise is unlimited. You can create any number of roles with an arbitrary set of 57+ atomic permissions.
Can I add a permission to a standard role?
No. Standard roles have a fixed set of permissions. For flexible configuration, use the custom roles builder on the Enterprise plan or assign multiple standard roles to a user -- their permissions will be combined.
